Dean Alfaro is a seasoned leader in higher education with over 10 years of experience working for the California Community College System. With a comprehensive perspective, he has served as an academic dean, counseling faculty member, and instructor of CSU and UC transferable courses.

At Los Angeles Valley College, Dean Alfaro leads a cross-functional team within Student Services. His diverse portfolio encompasses oversight of Admissions and Records, Career Transfer Center, Counseling department, Financial Aid, International Students, High School Outreach and Recruitment, Welcome Center, The Valley Promise (First Year Experience), and Proyecto Adelante (Title V Grant).

Recognized as a national leader in higher education transformation, Dean Alfaro is an expert at closing racial equity gaps for students of color and driving transformative change. Dean Alfaro is an advocate for social justice and equity, he has pioneered a nationally recognized anti-racist case management framework aimed at addressing equity disparities. Notably, his programs have been nominated for the Seal of Excelencia Awards. Dean Alfaro also serves on the Executive Team as a board member for COLEGAS, an organization dedicated to fostering, empowering, and amplifying Latinx leadership within the Higher Education System. 

Dean Alfaro is a proud product of the California Community College system. He began his academic career at Diablo Valley College before transferring to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Finance. He furthered his education by completing graduate-level courses at UC Berkeley and the Riordan MBA Fellows Program at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Lastly, he obtained his Masters in Educational Counseling from the University of Southern California. Prior to his career in higher education, Dean Alfaro accrued a decade of experience in the private sector, specializing in Real Estate Finance.
